The Gibran National Committee Museum

The Gibran National Committee (GNC), located in Bsharry, Lebanon, manages the Gibran Museum. Founded in 1935, the GNC is a non-profit corporation holding the exclusive rights to manage the Lebanese author Kahlil Gibran's copyright in and to his literary and artistic works.
Bsharry, Lebanon is 120 km from Beirut, 35 km from Tripoli and 7 km from Cedars (MAP).
The Gibran Museum includes 440 original paintings and drawings of Gibran. It also includes his furniture and belongings from his studio in New York and private manuscripts.
The building housing the Gibran Museum and his tomb has a unique history. The Mar Sarkis (Saint Serge) hermitage was originally a 7th century shelter for monks. Between the late 1600s and 1862, the Carmelite monks in the “sacred valley” constructe a new monastery.
Gibran wanted to buy the monastery for his final tomb. His sister Mariana purchased the monastery and hermitage in 1931 after his death.
In 1975 the Gibran National Committee restored the monastery . New construction provided space for the exhibits. In 1995, the museum was built out more, with new roads and parking to aid in the development of the region as a cultural site.
